The staff, drinks and food was also fantastic. Lots of attention to detail that made our stay even more special. A Special thank you for the very warm welcome and hospitality, to the lovely lady who checked us in on 31st July. I didn’t catch her name (I normally look out for a name badge!) but she did say she’d worked there 16 years, so hopefully you’ll know who she is! We will definitely be staying here again More

We had booked three nights at the Sunningdale last January as our base for a tour of northern part of Northumberland. It was only two weeks before departure that... read more we had the good news that the hotel had reopened.
No issues with sanitizing, cleaning , social distance etc and felt as relaxed as we could possibly be.
The first thing to impress us was the friendliness of all staff who come across as a happy team. The room was in excellent condition and was very quiet despite being next to narrow road.
Two sitting for breakfast so that residents could be kept safe. A good selection available and arrives freshly cooked. At present restaurant only open over weekends which is a shame as we were only able to dine on the Friday evening. The food was superb and superior to some of the local restaurants in the area. Must also applaud the hotel for being realistic with the quality of wine served and price- the previous evening we had an inferior wine at another restaurant and were charged far more.
Parking is available at the side of the hotel, although tight access.
Can highly recommend this friendly hotel if you want to shake off the lock down blues in stunning Northumberland. So much to see and do but make sure you take a trip with Serenity boats to the Farne Islands and see wildlife close up.
I booked this last minute and was initially a bit sceptical based on the inexpensive price, but wow was I surprised. Lovely double room which was tastefully decorated and offered... read more all the facilities of a four star hotel. Breakfast was included but as it was at 0800 and I had to leave early at 0730 I thought I had missed it. No.....the ladies in the kitchen made me coffee and a bacon sandwich to go!!
Fantastic service at extremely competitive pricing (I would have paid more), and should be a first choice when staying in the area.
Well done Sunningdale Hotel, you were fabulous.
What is not to like? Superb staff ( many hotels could learn from this team). Not once did we feel that we were bothering any one of the... read more team be it at reception, in the restaurant or housekeeping. We were a party of 7 who had travelled from all over the UK and we were welcome. The meals we chose in the restaurant were superb and delicious. Freshly cooked to order - what treat. Location was perfect with bars, restaurants, museum and st aidan’s church all within a 5 minute walk. 15 minute walk to the castle. There are spaces for 6 cars in the car park which were full when we were there but easy to park nearby on the street.
The room itself was fine - not particularly spacious with a small en suite but clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was good with a reasonable choice of continental and cooked options.
The hotel has a nice restaurant which doesn’t have a separate TA listing so may be missed. Decent food with large portions - i think my Jambalaya could have served two. Wine list had good quality, good value wines by the glass and bottle.
I was put off by the reviews mentioning ‘dog friendly’ and that the ‘dogs go everywhere’. I’m allergic to dogs so this is not a good thing for me but fortunately we saw only one when we were there.
No draught beer in the bar which is a shame - would have spent more time there if it had.
Ok rooms but friendly staff and great location make it a good choice. More
Great Venue, pleasant Owner and incredible Girls. Probably the most friendly people I've come across in hospitality and tourism in the British Isles #Northumbria

I also had my evening meal there both nights, gammon one night and lasagne the next. Again, very well cooked and presented, and good portion sizes. I must mention the staff who were all very friendly and welcoming. As others have mentioned, great location, 5 minutes to the castle and beach, have a walk along the beach to sea houses, it’s a great walk. I would stay at the sunnigdale again without hesitation. I have given my review Average However I really dont feel the Hotel is average and would have given it a Good if it was available.
Its a clean hotel... read more with lovely staff, helpful and friendly. The breakfast was cooked fresh and good quality, the buffet part was a bit limited
My reason for the average score is that the heating was on a timer which meant it was very cold during the day. I appreciate that most guests will be out all day but unfortunately I was feeling unwell so returned to the room. it was very cold and uncomfortable. Also we were in the front room with big bay windows which didnt help.
I think the question to finish my review on is "Would I stay again?" and the answer is YES More
Stayed here for 1 night and was brilliant value for money.

The bed was comfy, the shower was powerful, and the hotel is beautifully decorated.
All of the staff were super friendly and helpful. Claire who checked us in was very welcoming and very clued up on Covid safety.
The breakfast was delicious, especially the sausages.
Would definitely stay here again!
For those who have read the negative reviews - yes, the rooms and showers aren't huge but it's an old building and in my opinion, very well done. It is good value for money especially when compared with other similar hotels in that area - and in a year when most people seem to be holidaying in the UK rather than going abroad! More
