My wife and I stayed at the Sunningdale for one night as part of a mini break around the North East. We stayed in a room on the top... read more floor, which had Southerly views of the castle and coast line. The room was quite small but not cramped, it was really well furnished, spotlessly clean, warm and quiet. There was a nice selection of complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits and water and a lovely big TV. The shower controls were a little tricky but once you've worked them out it's a good shower. Breakfast was very pleasant as well, in the comfortable lounge. I thought the cost of the room was a little expensive but then again there were no other comparable rooms available in the town that night..... We would definitely go back if we were staying in the area.
Booked a one night stay whilst passing through the area on business. Really comfortable room, clean and nicely decorated and quiet too. Had an excellent evening meal and as I... read more had an early start before breakfast, the lovely receptionist gave me cookies and fruit to take with me. It's the little touches like that that ensure you will return. And the cost of the stay was minimal to boot. Can't recommend highly enough. Hope they get through this current crisis.
The hotel is in Bamburgh itself, on the main high street.
On arrival we were struck by how clean, tidy and Covid 19 aware the hotel was.
We booked a... read more dinner on the first night; the food was delicious with plenty of choice. The dining experience was friendly and very comfortable; you could quite easily interact with other diners from a safe distance.
There was a good selection on the breakfast menu; the food was cooked to your taste and they basically did whatever you asked for.
We couldn't fault the staff in the hotel, they were super helpful and friendly.
Our room was quote small, however it was very clean and had everything you would want plus a very comfortable bed.
If you don't like animals, then you may want to avoid the hotel as they allow pets. This didn't bother us as we like dogs; to be honest Bamburgh is very dog friendly and we wished we'd had a dog to take.
We are hoping to return to the Sunningdale next year once travel is permitted. More
This is a wonderful hotel, our stay was perfect.
Our room was well appointed and spotlessly clean
The staff, well we’ve never met a nicer bunch , they were friendly... read more and helpful and most of all gave time to talk to you and made you feel at home.
The breakfasts were well cooked and plentiful, we ate in the restaurant on Friday night, the restaurant is only open on a couple of nights per week due to the chef leaving abruptly and so one of the owners had to step in. TIP:- get him in the kitchen permanently, the food we had was sublime, we’ll cooked and delicious, The only slight problem we encountered was that of parking, but with a little bit of patience you’ll eventually find a spot not too far away. If I had a magic wand I’d have all the day trippers use the overflow car park and allow us temporary residents places to park Will definitely return. More
I booked this last minute and was initially a bit sceptical based on the inexpensive price, but wow was I surprised. Lovely double room which was tastefully decorated and offered... read more all the facilities of a four star hotel. Breakfast was included but as it was at 0800 and I had to leave early at 0730 I thought I had missed it. No.....the ladies in the kitchen made me coffee and a bacon sandwich to go!!
Fantastic service at extremely competitive pricing (I would have paid more), and should be a first choice when staying in the area.

Just back for a two night stay at The Sunningdale, would highly recommend it. Staff were really friendly, we had a good room, breakfasts were great and we ate there... read more one night, that meal was excellent.
We booked the only double room with walk-in shower and to our great surprise and delight found that it was on the ground floor close to Reception. Thus it was... read more easy to manhandle all our luggage in from the car. Parking is not easy but we found a place on the main road which was quite close. En suite worked well, plenty of hanging and cupboard space, large comfortable bed, no noise at night - what could be better for the money.
Large dining room/ lounge for breakfast and I enjoyed a generous FEB with bacon, sausage, tomato, two fried eggs, plenty of hot toast and good coffee.
Friendly helpful service makes this a popular family destination.
